9th International Guitar Festival

Dear Junior and Senior Ensemble,

Mr Liauw has requested for TJ Guitar to help out during the 9th International Guitar Festival. The job scope would be simply Ushering/Ticketing/Staff. You will be given a free 9th Guitar Festival Shirt. And not to mention, you'll get CIP from this. Many many many hours :)

The different categories of events are all listed below. Please text Ridhwan at 82495607 indicating your name and which category you wish to participate in. If you wish, you can submit your name for 2 categories or more. Etc, Competition Finals & Seminars/Workshops

If you really wish to participate in one of the categories but you are unable to attend one of the dates, get someone to help sub you for that day. But please do inform beforehand who will be substituting you and on which dates.

This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, offering many takeways especially for the Junior Ensemble, especially if youre serious about running for SI's or other EXCO Positions. After all, its not everyday you get to see guitar gods from around the world play live and get the chance to observe and learn from the masters during the seminars. Who knows, you may even get to take away some freebies :)

***Attire for all events is Black Pants, and you will be handed the Guitar Festival Shirt there. (But come in a black collared shirt just incase)

camp matters

All juniors to take note:
1. Prepare $4 exact amount when you assemble on friday. The money will be used to pay for dinner and logistics.

2. Everyone is to wear a watch and synchronise it to teletext.

Take note that while this is a bonding camp for you to know your fellow batchbates better, it is also a discipline camp. So treat all the instructions we give seriously. Like if we say assemble at 4pm, we really mean 4pm. If you have a valid reason for being late, sms Lipin by friday 12pm. If you think you might be late (lesson end at 3.50 may drag on ...), also inform Lipin by friday 12pm.

There is a time to be serious and a time to have fun. Judge the mood wisely.

With that, I hope all of you will enjoy and learn much from the camp! In any case, always rmb we are TJ Guitar - 1 club, 1 sound.

Basically, and quite self-explanatory, you have to sing some songs here. Probably 1 or 2 songs are enough, but it is better if you memorize the lyrics. You can actually choose your own songs, but please tell us before the audition. Choose the one that suits your range of notes well. Just singing, no skills will be tested. Please bear in mind that singing in choir is rather different than singing in a rock band. Well, we are not too sure of what it is, but just try your best :)

Date: Wed, 17th feb 2010
Time: after contact time, 3.30pm
Venue: Room 126, same as last practice. Please come in first and shift all the tables and chairs to 1 side.

Note: All those who have a classical guitar, please bring it. Do not bring acoustic guitar. You can keep it at our Acoustic Lobby Information on wed morning from before 8am. Please come and take it after flag raising, then go to rm 126. The room is on 3rd floor of the music block. The music block is near to the canteen after the malay food stalls area, and the Leo Club noticeboard. There is a staircase, just come up to the 3rd floor.
We will put guiding directions around there, so don't worry too much. If you can't find your way, just contact anyone of us.

Ballade Pour Adeline

Hello everyone, here's the link to Ballade Pour Adeline, played by NTU niibori ensem. Its very similar, if not identical, to the score we're playing. So we can actually refer to our score and try to follow as much as possible. It's very niceeee! :D

Our target is to learn the first 6 lines by next practice on wed, 10th Feb! We can do it!! Jiayou & practise hard!

But, we have so many ppl who have missed prac cos of orientation. Help them catch up on wed k :)

In case you're interested, the other niibori piece we're playing for concert is Plink Plank Plonk. Our seniors played it before! Here's a vid from 1 of their rehearsals. It's 2 songs combined tgt, the 1st one is summer breeze, 2nd one is then plink plank plonk (start at and 2min20) Enjoy! :D

Time: 3.20 to 6pm
You need to bring ur guitar. Put at mozart rm in the morning.

Immediately after contact time, come up & leave ur bag thr,
only bring down ur valuables. (no need to bring down guitar)

Then hurry down to Recital Rm* to watch the US performance.

It starts at 3.30 so be quick!

(*Recital Rm is on the 1st floor below Mozart Rm)

After the performance, proceed to help out at the guitar booth
for PDP exhibition, which is at the Arts Hub.
There will be some seniors around so dun worry :)
It's until 4.30, so help to pack up after that.

Finally, u can get to play ur guitar & continue learning
Fur Elise until 6pm @ Mozart Rm!
Chen Yin will be there to supervise, so be good!

The first 5 of you are in charge of the booth. Mainly need you guys (and gals) to display the niibori guitars, have a laptop ready to play slideshow/videos of performances (Serene is it okay for you to bring? The slideshow will be prepared). And chat with potential juniors, psycho them to join tjGUITAR! WOOTS. ur job is very important okay! Tentatively, you all only need to come at 8am on actual open house. Will give you all more details soon :)

In case you're wondering why some of us aren't in the performance, it's cos Lipin, Xiaohui and Meizhen (that's me!) have open house duty :X But we'll definitely be there to support during the performance, and also come during practices :) Wenhui and Swan Ser are involved in an external event FLL (First Lego League) on actual day, so unfortunately they can't be around :( As for Yu Cheng and Andrea, I guess you'll be busy with ur House Comm. and SC duties? If you want to perform, by all means let us know! I'm more than happy to let u all perform :)

We are asked to help out during Guitar Fest concerts as ticketing officials (stand at entrance and 'tear' tickets) from 10-14Dec. It will be at night, 7pm.

Each night will require 8 members. You will get to watch the concert for free after that. Mr Liauw really needs our help, so those who are in Singapore pls try to make it!!!

You may want to form your group of 8 first and give the list of your group and which night your group can make it during Dec Prac. Pls indicate on tagboard whether you can make it or not. You are strongly encouraged to. (Cos we've already agreed to help Mr Liauw:)

Hmm I hope I've been a good President and I hope you enjoyed being in the Exco.
There might be times when I've had to scold you all or chide you, but please understand that I had to do it. If I have a choice, I wouldnt have done that. But for the sake of the Club, I knew I had to do it, so i really seek your understanding in this.
To me, what matters most is the bonding in the club and i've tried my best to make the juniors feel bonded so that they feel at home whenever they come to Guitar. And Exco, thank you for helping me with that. I couldnt have done it alone. With the bond, I'm sure we've placed guitar in good hands and that they'll not let us down. Husting is like an interview. What is different is you face your fellow batchmates and the senior EXCO altogether. Votes matter but may not take the deciding role. (:

Attire: Full Uniform + Tie

Make-up hustings for those who cant make it on the 5th:
Monday, 26th May, 8am.
Attire is still full uniform + tie.
Meet outside Mozart first.

Here are the different positions:

You are in charge of discipline within the EXCO.

Vice-President:
You take on the role of a disciplinarian within the Club.
You assist the President in everything concerning the Club.
You are in charge of the annual June Camp.
You take charge of all information feed to the college admin, including club membership, members' participation and PDP events.

Secretary:
You are in charge of Minutes of Meetings (MOMs)
After every meeting, you are to send the MOMs to the EXCO and the tutors-in-charge.
You are in charge of Club Publicity and maintaining the Guitar NoticeBoard.
It is best if you can be in charge of the Concert Programme Booklet as well as the design of the ticket.

Treasurer:
You are in charge of everything that has got to do with money.
Collect club funds, ticket sales, whatever money matters.

Chief Student Instructor:
You are the main liaison officer between the President and the SIs.
Your job is to coordinate amongst the SIs.
Apart from the normal SI's tasks, you are also in charge of coming up with the practice schedule after discussion with your SIs.

Student Instructor:
You are mainly in charge of practices.
You assist members in their playing.
You try to hunt for scores everywhere.
You prepare the Concert Repertoire.

Quarter Master/ Quarter Mistress:
You are in charge of taking care of Mozart Room and everything inside.
You purchase instruments.
You plan backstage movements for annual concert.
You are in charge of all equipment loan.

It's always good to know how a song sounds like before you start practising. I couldnt manage to find Annen Polka played on a guitar so i guess we'll just have to know how it sounds like on an electone. Do pay close attention to the very different dynamics at different parts of the song. Lastly, enjoy practising! & we'll all practise hard so that we'll sound good as an ensemble alright! JIAYOU!

The 7th INTERNATIONAL GUITAR FESTIVAL 2007 (Singapore)!

As i've mentioned in the post before the previous one, there are several renowned artistes coming to perform in Singapore. And so, the school is kind enough to subsidise the ticket cost for us! Up to 60%!!!

Okay, i sound like i'm promoting some discounted product.

The Annual "Guitar Concert T-shirt" Designing competition is here again!!!
Okay, i'm kidding. But anyway, here's the chance for you to show everyone in school how good you are in designing yeah! Of course if there are no designs submitted, we'll have to use what I design, which you probably wouldnt even want to look at. Trust me, you dont want to know my art grades. So, to prevent that tragedy,

PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO THE CLUB BY SUBMITTING AS MANY T-SHIRT DESIGNS AS YOU WISH FOR THE CONCERT.

p.s please include the front and the back, as well as the colours.

Second thing on the list, if you suck at designing like i do, fret not! you can contribute by thinking up a good theme for our concert next year, along with a slogan. Something like, theme: "Friendship", Slogan: "Stringing notes, Stringing lives". Yes if you dont want the theme to be as ~~lame~~ simple as that, do what you ought to do! You can come up with as many themes as you wish and submit them to me!

t's been entryless for a long time!!! ;D

Anyway, hope everyone has had his or her share of joy or sorrow in the post-promo period, and now it's time to pack up those emotions and move on! ^^

Oh and something to comment about, for Openhouse,

TJC GUITAR CLUB, you've done well!

Great job! We didnt have a lot of time to prepare and there were rushes here and there but i must say we handled them better than i expected. ;D So yeah, quick applaud for yourself and everyone else! (;

Since we are playing the theme song for Spirited Away composed by Joe Hisaishi, we should get to know more of his works. yay! Here's one from him which is currently my favourite! BEAMS.

Summer by Joe Hisaishi. A pretty jumpy piece which gives me more of the feel of Spring rather than Summer i have no idea why. haha. The dynamics around 1minute plus there is good! Overall, i think it's catchy and sweet! yay! anw i'm just offering my super-novice comments because i think anyone who loves music doesnt have to know about music to express music. Right? Right. hahah. Knowing music is never enough, it's about loving it. Anyway a random comment, lol his hands like one dark one fair lidat, very distracting. hahah.

Main theme of Howl's Moving Castle. Listen to the climax of the song at around 2minutes plus. Don't you think it's so breathtaking to be part of an orchestra, making music altogether with other music lovers? The whole orchestra moving as one with the conductor, you can see from the clip, that's something i think we should learn from. (;

Piano and Nine Cellos - Madness. A very dark piece. If you're a Cello lover, i think you'll like this.

Well, for guitar lovers, Spirited Away's Always with Me is up next. ;D

That's how it sounds like when it's played solo. Rather cool. Anyway, when you look at the clip, you can actually learn certain techniques from this guy. If you look at his right hand, he actually doesnt move much of his fingers. Unlike some of us, we move too much. lol. If you do it like him, you actually have more time to prepare for your next note so yeah. Similarly, he doesnt move much of his left hand's fingers. That is to faciliate fluid movement along the fingerboard actually. Practising scales will help. (; Though it can get a little dry at times.

This is a clearer version. Anyway, this guy here has his thumb on the erm, top, of the fingerboard? actually i dont think it's correct. I remember my conductor saying that the thumb should always be at the back of the neck, not seen from the front... Yeah. But this is nice though! Easier to learn, if you're interested in playing it solo. (;

If you want to learn the chords and the song step-by-step, this is a good tutorial. ;D But you do need to capo it at the 5th fret i think.

After posting the clips, i'm so tempted to go learn the song! hahah. so, later then! Take care alright!

(2nd row rightest photo) Pong will be playing on the 7th of September at 7pm with the Singapore Niibori Guitar Ensemble, after Chung Cheng High School (Main). (;

So, lets be supportive and of course, appreciative of music! (I believe we all hold a certain passion for music, no?) Exposing yourself to more variations and styles of music certainly enhances your feel for it. You'll be amazed at how far the guitar can go at tugging heartstrings. ^^

Shall we have a date on the 7th of September, Friday, 6pm? We'll have early dinner together and then head off to Far East Plaza by 7pm to catch Pong's performance! How's that? Of course, you may choose to reach there earlier to catch other performances!

Senior Farewell Party

Aw we didnt take photos!!! (And i didnt see a single shooting star ._.)
Anyway, I hope you guys had fun yesterday! If you didnt have enough food, blame it on Randy. hahah. Kidding, i suppose there was enough food since there was leftovers. (;

All in all, thanks for those who made it down to Pasir Ris! And also, everyone else who contributed to the food through the club fund, especially frequent latecomers. ^^ Most importantly of all, a huge THANK YOU to the seniors for coming! I'm sure this isnt the last farewell and we'll, for sure, see you guys altogether again next year (Aurora XII) RIGHT? I bet we will. For now, all the best for A's!!! Take care.

Hey guys and girls!

The past few weeks have been crazy, especially the past few days for the Ex-CO. JIAYOU! We know we can do it, what more can we say when the huge bulk of our Ex-co can play the guitar so so so WELL! (swoons

Guitar Ensemble/symphony/club shall show our prowess (DId i spell that right?) in Leo Investiture! the 'CCC' group, you all sounded so so so nice and touching on Friday during practice! Hang in there with that standard! You're gonna touched the Leo people just like how they touched other people's lives! (HAHA)

and the 'Minuet' group, even if Jeff says it isn't a song, we know we can carry this piece out to the MAXIMUM! OH, how we enjoy squeezing at the corridor outside the Acoustic Infomation Lobby , eating passed ice cream specially treated by PONG! *smiles smiles!*

To the Ex-Co, the National Day Performance is just there, it's coming, it's coming! We're progressing so well so fast so united! Imagine, we've kind of perfected 'We will get there already!' AWESOME! Hang in there through the late nights and long days, because the returns would be fufilling! Maybe we should start studying sessions in Mozart Room. HAHA!
